Last Friday I facilitated a Sit and Sew class at Sew There! in Angier, NC. Bonnie (the shop owner) and I like to offer an inexpensive three hour class each month to encourage ladies to enjoy making small projects together. The project for June was a star within a star, inspired by a diagram I saw online. At 20″ square it can be used as a table topper or walll quilt.

Nancy’s red, white, and blue quilt is perfect for summer decorating. She plans to bind the quilt in red fabric and perhaps give it to a niece who loves decorating for holidays.

Tighan had other ideas for a color combination. She saw a hexagon quilt online with colors that spoke to her: peach, tan, and sage green. We had no trouble finding those fabrics in my stash! We’ll bind the quilt in peach, and Tighan plans to hang it in her bedroom.

If you’d like to make the “Celebrate!” quilt, visit Sew There! Quilts and More in person or online and ask Bonnie for a pattern. She stocks the fabrics shown in my sample below.

Several spin-off designs for this quilt design come to mind. I could replace the blue bandana print with a Christmas print for a festive table topper. I could make nine blocks and create a throw size quilt, or I could make sixteen blocks to create a queen size quilt. I could exchange the red and blue colors in alternate blocks. I could use the blue fabric, making a large star with the white and red stars in its center.

What color palette would you choose for your “Celebrate!” quilt?
